Out West Travel with Luke: The State of Wyoming

Hi Blog Readers!

This week in travel locations with Luke, I will be talking about out west traveling to the state of Wyoming, which I did when I was ten years old.

Wyoming: nicknamed the Cowboy State, is for travelers who like to explore the outdoors. According to Kiss FM Casper, Wyoming is ranked the 10th most beautiful state in the United States, which I disagree with; I think Wyoming should be at least top five, but that's for you to judge.

Now let's get into the two best places to visit in Wyoming and how to get there.

First, I recommend flying into Salt Lake City, Utah, and renting a car to travel to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Jackson Hole has an airport, but there are limited flight options as it is very tiny, so Salt Lake City is the better option if you want more flight options to pick from throughout the year.

The reason I recommend traveling to Jackson Hole is because it is in a beautiful location, nestled in the Teton National Park. There are many lodging options to choose from, plus there are many activities to do there.

Three lodging options that I recommend are vacation rentals, cabins, or the Terra Hotel. The vacation rentals and cabins will be your cheapest options, but if you want to stay in a luxury hotel, stay at the Terra Hotel. When my family and I visited, we stayed at the Teton Tree House, but sadly it is permanently closed; otherwise, it would be my top recommendation.

The activities I recommend in Jackson Hole include taking a float down the Snake River, hiking the beautiful trails nearby, and visiting Jenny Lake. Floating down the Snake River is the only activity costing you money.

After your time in Jackson Hole, I recommend driving the rental car three and a half hours north to Yellowstone National Park for a day. In Yellowstone, you will see an abundance of wildlife such as bison, mountains, lakes, and a hot spring. However, I think the most important thing to see is Old Faithful.

Old Faithful is a geyser that erupts every 33 to 90 minutes. According to Oxford Languages, eruptions usually last four minutes, and the hot water rises to 116 to 175 feet. It is a memorizing sight to see and should be on your bucket list.

After seeing Old Faithful, there are springs, pools, and other geysers, that are within walking distance, to check out in the park.

If you’re up for it, you could drive an hour northeast to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River featuring the Upper and Lower Falls. It is a very beautiful site to see, and I recommend it if you have time.

After exploring Yellowstone National Park, you could explore the rest of Wyoming, take a trip to Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, or drive back to Salt Lake City and fly home.

Personally, I love the state of Wyoming because of its beauty and wildlife. I hope to travel back to Jackson Hole to ski on the slopes around the town.

I hope you enjoyed this blog on my two favorite locations to travel to in Wyoming. Please leave a comment on what you thought was cool about the locations I talked about and whether you would take a trip there or not.

  1. Hi Luke, I have been to many states but I have not yet gotten the privilege of traveling to Wyoming yet. I would love to be able to go one day or even just visit Yellowstone and the Grand Cannon one day. My cousin did a trip to Yellowstone and the Grand Cannon and said it truly was beautiful. Surprisingly one of the most gorgeous states I've visited is Idaho. It has goregous rolling mountains and a beautiful lake in the Coeur D'Alene area.

  2. Hi Luke, I looked at your past blogs and I love the places you chose to talk about. I love to travel and Destin and the Carolinas have been some of my favorite places to go. I have never been out west though, especially Wyoming. Traveling west is the next step I want to take. I love how you gave recommendations on where to go if people were to visit this state. It looks gorgeous there.
